PAR Center One of the most common misunderstandings about BTSA and PAR within the Hart district is the difference between workshop and seminar requirements. Although they sound synonymous, workshops and seminars here are not the same thing. Workshops serve to reinforce the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) done in the Formative Assessment System (FAS). There are four workshops required for each of two years in BTSA. Further confusion arises when the notion of clearing a credential is added. There are more than 20 seminars required to clear a preliminary credential in the Hart Induction Program. The array of workshops offered by the PAR Center are all aimed at involving teachers in understanding theory within the context of daily practice. It is the goal of the BTSA program that Participating Teachers (PTs) would choose learning goals for the year that would cause their teaching practice to grow. It might be that a PT wishes to learn more strategies to encourage more active participation of students in the classroom. He or she might then choose a Cooperative Learning workshop or Are You Game?, which models teaching strategies that actively engage learners. The seminars offered by PAR Center have another goal: They have been designed and implemented with the supervision of the state of California in order that Participating Teachers will clear preliminary credentials. They are designed to give PTs an opportunity to learn and demonstrate proficiency on the six standards mandated by the state: Content knowledge, Technology, Diversity, Healthy Environment, English Language Learners and Special Populations. Some rules that guide both:
